This article builds on previous work of Bouwens and Verkerk (1988): "Inventory of misconceptions in optics". Jung (1981) distinguishes a number of levels for the learning of a scientific theory. Different educational strategies can be used for each level to cope with misconceptions. These strateques are explored for misconceptions in optics. For several fundamental concepts in optics it was investigated how they are discussed in course books. Recommendations for an improved approach are presented. Finally an impulse is given for the implementation of an optics curriculum for the lower grades of secondary education. This curriculum is build on an approach from the vision concept.
