Enthalpie in V.W.O.-Chemie?

The words "heat", "energy" and "enthalpy" are used almost as synonyms in the current chemistry curriculum for pre-university students in Holland. This is incorrect as demonstrated by the impossibility to replace "energy" by "heat" or "enthalpy" in the law of conservation of energy. We argue that "enthalpy", being a typical chemical thermodynamic concept, can only be distinguished from "heat" and "energy" if "heat" is viewed in a thermodynamic way. Since the curriculum explicitly states this must not be done, we conclude that "enthalpy" should be removed from it.
