Vakstructuur: steunpilaar of sta-in-de-weg? Bespreking van een vakstructuur voor het schoolvak scheikunde

In an earlier article in this journal (de Vos & Verdonk, 1990) the authors describe an underlying structure in traditional school chemistry curricula. This structure includes an introductory part and two comlementary branches. In the present paper the three parts of the structure as well as the structure as a whole are being analyzed and discussed. Discussion focuses on the role played by the structure in curriculum innovation projects. The authors conclude that chemical education based on this structure does not comply with the aims of chemistry as a school subject in modern secondary education. They state that ‘escaping’ from the traditional structure will require a thorough analysis of its influence in teaching and teacher training.
