The 8th annual conference on Citizenship Education will be held in Brussels on 8 and 9 June.

Keynote speech by Prof. Dr. Ellen Claes – Thursday 17:00-18:00 Prof. Dr. Ellen Claes is a member of the center for political sciences at KU Leuven and is specialized in citizenship education and the political participation of young people. In her keynote, she will discuss citizenship education research in an era of change. She will outline an overview of citizenship education research and how it inspires new research. In doing so, she will also reflect on the observation that citizenship education research is becoming less evident in the current social and political context.

Keynote speech by Prof. Dr. Gema Garcia Albacete – Friday 09:00-10:00 Prof. Dr. Gema Garcia Albacete is a member of the political science department at the Department of Social Sciences at Universidad Carlos III in Madrid. Her research relates to citizens’ political attitudes and behaviors emphasizing inequalities. She is particularly interested in the processes by which political participation and political orientations develop, as well as how contextual and individual determinants interact in these processes. She is furthermore interested in how diverse research methodologies and techniques can be used to develop this research field further.
