De Nieuwe Wiskrant berichtte vooral over nieuwe ontwikkelingen op het gebied van wiskundeonderwijs in het voortgezet onderwijs, zoals de vernieuwde tweede fase, ict in het onderwijs, de nieuwe plannen voor vmbo, zelfstandig leren, toetsen en examens, de A-lympiade, de Nationale Wiskunde Dagen, e.d.

"Count your blessings one by one " Counting is an essential part of any one’s behaviour: inflating a tire, running, high jumping, when in birth pains. The function of counting diverges from the high grade of precision in the high jump to the control of breathing and pacing rhythm of the long-distance runner. In the latter case the functioning of one’s body is controlled by means of counting. This phenomena like, for instance, pain do not become predominant, they remain merely part of a process as an entity. One’s functioning on an adequate level will benefit from reflection upon phenomena inside and around oneself. Parts of one’s own situation like, for instance, an unfavorable labour-market may paralyse thinking and acting in other fields. Reflecting upon problems, recalling one’s train of thought make it possible to get a good impression of one’s situation and to act within its limits in a coherent manner; free from misery without closing one’s eyes to it. Working on mathematics offers excellent opportunities of gaining experience in reflecting and reviewing.
