G-STEAM is built around six specific objectives designed to address the most pressing challenges in embedding gender inclusion and intersectionality in STEAM education across Europe. Each objective contributes to rethinking how teachers are trained and supported in fostering inclusive, creative, and equitable learning environments.
Investigate Gender and Intersectionality in Teacher Education
“Conduct an in-depth investigation into the current state of gender and intersectionality inclusive education within ITE and CPD programmes.” – We begin by mapping good practices and identifying gaps across Initial Teacher Education (ITE) and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programmes in Europe to lay the foundation for inclusive STEAM education.
Build a European Community of Practice (CoP)
“Build a European Community of Practice to scale up gender inclusive teacher education and training for STEAM.” – We are establishing a vibrant, mentor-driven European CoP where teacher trainers and educators collaborate, share knowledge, and co-develop inclusive teaching practices.
Train and Empower G-STEAM Mentors
“Develop and deliver a certified training programme for teacher trainers and equip them with skills to mentor and guide other teachers integrate gender sensitive teaching in STEM education.” – A certified training programme will equip teacher trainers with the knowledge and tools to mentor pre- and in-service teachers in applying gender-inclusive pedagogies.
Create Arts-Based, Inclusive Teaching Resources
“Co-create, test and evaluate innovative and arts-based educational resources for integrating gender inclusive teaching in different STEM subjects at primary and secondary education.” – Through co-creation workshops, we are developing digital and analogue teaching resources—G-STEAM Toolboxes—that integrate gender-sensitive and intersectional approaches into STEM subjects using creative, arts-based methods.
Launch Inclusive Blended Mobility Schemes
“Develop, test and evaluate a blended mobility scheme for pre- and in-service teachers to facilitate greater participation in international mobility and foster the European dimension of ITE and CPD.” – We are designing a flexible mobility programme that offers pre- and in-service teachers opportunities to participate in international learning experiences, both online and in-person.
Influence Policy and Promote Structural Change
“Foster policy uptake of G-STEAM results and expand its impact on European teacher education and training systems.” – Through strategic engagement and advocacy, G-STEAM will contribute to shaping education policies and institutional practices that embed gender inclusion across Europe’s teacher education systems.
