De Nieuwe Wiskrant berichtte vooral over nieuwe ontwikkelingen op het gebied van wiskundeonderwijs in het voortgezet onderwijs, zoals de vernieuwde tweede fase, ict in het onderwijs, de nieuwe plannen voor vmbo, zelfstandig leren, toetsen en examens, de A-lympiade, de Nationale Wiskunde Dagen, e.d.

Automated Data Processing is one of the subjects which is proposed for the new ‘Math A’ program. On the one hand critics contend that only 20 periods cannot do justice to the subject of informatics. On the other, mathematics teachers are not always too eager to deal with such an unknown territory. Three reasons are given here in favour of ADP in Math A. In the first place ADP and Math A are both meant to be final instruction; the pupils that will apply these two subjects in future studies and every day Iife prove to be the very same group. Secondly the similarity on goals: a basic knowledge of the language (mathematics or informatics), experience in using (mathematical or computer) models and judgement of the relevance of these models. Thirdly, Math A contains striking applications for ADP which can give the proper image of the use of computers in the real world. In reverse ADP contributes to the concrete context in which Main A is presented.
