Abstract

During this 1h4Teachers in STEM webinar, Michiel van Harskamp (Utrecht University) will discuss his experiences with implementing sustainability issues in science education. During his PhD, Michiel worked together with a team of six science teachers to design, implement, observe, and evaluate lesson modules, aimed at fostering Environmental Citizenship at lower secondary level. This webinar will include:

• A short theoretical perspective on sustainability education, including insights from Michiel’s PhD work
• Interactive discussion of the developed lesson modules (freely available in English)
• Some final do’s and don’ts in the context of sustainability education

By attending this webinar, participants will gain inspiration for integrating sustainability issues in their teaching in a meaningful way. This includes concrete lesson examples, theoretical insights, and experiences of other educators with this challenging and important theme.
