Nieuwe Wiskrant. Tijdschrift voor Nederlands Wiskundeonderwijs Checking truth is as important inside as outside mathematics. As an attitude it is highly appreciated. Learning closely related to the pupil’s life and environment involves critical checking. The short term results of this kind of learning might be less impressive. The long term reward is a mathematical attitude, that of checking what is true. Disregarding this fact may lead to nurturing anti-mathematical attitudes. The paper is a plea for an instruction, so close to the pupil’s own experiences that they get the opportunity to critically check their newly acquired knowledge. |
