History
The MCLS is indebted to Dan Berch for his inspiration and hard work in founding and promoting the Mathematical Cognition and Learning Society. The years he spent at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) building a funding program in this field, along with his own experience as an active researcher, provided him with the requisite interest, connections, and knowledge to steer the Society through its early years. He has prepared the following historical account of how the Society was established.
In the fall of 2013, the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) awarded a five-year conference grant to Dan Berch (PI, University of Virginia) and Dave Geary (Co-Investigator, University of Missouri).
