Tipping Point Ahead was launched at the end of 2015 on the initiative of climate researchers at Utrecht University with the aim of actively introducing students and teachers in secondary education to climate science and the rapidly changing insights into climate change.

Tipping Point Ahead makes educational clips with young, enthusiastic scientists in which they talk about the multifaceted research into climate change, and develops free teaching materials, from more extensive modules to short assignments, suitable for general secondary education (havo/vwo levels) for both upper and lower classes. At refresher courses, we bring teachers and scientists together at lectures and workshops given by climate researchers. We collaborate with teachers and teacher organizations, SchoolTV, Utrecht University of Applied Sciences, KlimaatHelpdesk, U-Talent, Bètapartners and others.

Since 2025, Tipping Point Ahead has become part of the climate research programme EMBRACER. In the coming years, we will start updating our teaching materials, continue our series of refresher courses, and start developing suitable teaching materials for pre-vocational secondary education and education in the Dutch Caribbean.
